HOW BULLETSHIELD
POLYCARBONATE PANELS WORK

BulletShield is an overglaze that mounts onto existing window or door frames, creating a protective layer that mitigates ballistic attack through glass.

Each system is custom fabricated based on perceived threat levels, budgets, and existing glazing conditions. Installed by certified dealers, systems may utilize exotic plastics, polycarbonates, or glass-clad shields depending on performance requirements.

All-weather adhesives, high-performance films, VHB tapes, and mechanical security anchors may be used to install the system. BulletShield is  independently tested to meet forced entry and UL 752 ballistic standards.

BulletShield is an ideal bullet resistant glass solution for buildings most vulnerable to ballistic threats:

  • Commercial Buildings
  • Schools & Universities
  • Hospitals
  • Corporate Offices
  • Government Buildings & Police Stations
  • Retail Storefronts

4) Patented vented extrusion mounts to the existing glazing frame creating standoff for the polycarbonate shield from primary glass

1) “Unbreachable” UV capped, clear polycarbonate shield is secured to the vented extrusion with security “flex” screws and elastomeric VHB tapes

2) “Super bond” anchoring method secures the engineered system to the existing glazing providing for unmatched flex, tensile and tear strength upon attack

3) Customized powder-coating creates full aesthetic integration with existing glazing upon retrofit installation

BULLETSHIELD FAQ’S

What is BulletShield by DefenseLite?

A derivative of DefenseLite, BulletShield is a retrofit, bullet-resistant, clear security shield that installs over existing window and door glass. BulletShield is Body Armor for Windows and independently tested to meet UL 752 ratings for ballistic protection.

How is BulletShield Installed?

BulletShield is installed over existing window and door glass by certified installers. Mounted either on the exterior or interior of current glass, BulletShield anchors to existing windows to create a buffer zone between the primary glass and the BulletShield clear shield. Weather sealed and engineered for removal when needed, BulletShield is custom-made for every window opening and designed to blend in to the existing framing. BulletShield is nearly invisible upon a completed installation.

What are the benefits of BulletShield other than security?

BulletShield can reduce street noise by up to 40 percent and improve energy efficiency of existing glass by more than 50 percent. BulletShield will defeat most attacks, while protecting the primary glass from breaking. BulletShield by DefenseLite incorporates a proprietary sacrificial film coating on its surface that defeats graffiti tagging, while protecting the shield from damage.

How does BulletShield compare to other solutions?

BulletShield is unique. Designed to protect existing window and door glass from ballistic attack, BulletShield is the perfect, customizable solution when fully rated ballistic glazing systems are either too expensive or not possible due to the existing conditions of the space you are aiming to fortify. BulletShield is not glass and will not fracture or ‘white-out’ during attack.

Are there special BulletShield programs for schools?

Yes, BulletShield has a program designed specifically for schools and campuses. Making schools safer for our children is the most important service we provide.
